FABRIC RECOMMENDATIONS
Freya is a pattern designed for sturdier fabrics with some grip. Fabrics such as denim, heavy linen, panama and heavier canvas provide sufficient structure for a bag. Upholstery fabrics or quilted fabrics are also suitable. For the lining, fabrics such a cottons, linen or canvas are recommended. If you’d like to work with topstitching, you should definitely use fusible batting or iron-on molton. The webbing for the finish of the seams should be between 2 and 2.5 cm (3/4“ and 1“) wide and fold easily lengthways. Cotton webbing, jute or other sturdy materials are recommended, but make sure they aren’t too thick and can be sewn with your machine. For reference: a standard cotton backpack strap is perfectly suitable from it‘s texture.
Extra tip: Bags are ideal for using up larger fabric scraps or old home textiles. Get creative and see how you can whip up a great statement piece using what you already have. This way, you’ll be kind to both your wallet and the environment.
